Sculpture

Catarina Alves is a young artist from Lisbon who works in a small workshop.

She grew up in a house where a wooden wall rose to the sky of the attic, where pigments of all colours peeked from inside glass jars and a wooden box, where clay instruments were always ready to enter the picture.

Ever since then, she fell in love with the smell of cooked ceramics, having later graduated in Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. She completed her studies in various areas of ceramics such as tiling, pottery and raku, and attended the António Arroio Artistic School (Lisbon), CENCAL (Caldas da Rainha) and the Convent Workshops (Montemor-o-Novo), among others.

For a while, her path also led to the construction of puppets, where she learned to work and explore new materials, such as fiberglass and metal. Today, she splits her time between the workshop and classes, and the tools that once thrilled her, from the top of her attic, are now her daily work companions.
